NIA – The Joy of Movement
NIA is a blend of dance, yoga, and martial arts. The NIA motto is “through movement we find health.” No experience is necessary to enjoy this mind-body-spirit fitness practice.
The movement tools of Ageless Grace are organic rather than choreographed, and focus on using the core to stimulate cognitive function and physical function simultaneously. The tools are practiced using a chair for stability, range of motion, and engagement of the core.
Tools for Managing Stress
Practice relaxation and visualization, which have been shown to be effective in reducing pain, decreasing anxiety, and boosting the immune system. Learn ways to balance your energy and increase your self-care techniques. We also offer Chairside Stress Management at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
Stretch, Strengthen, and Relax
This one-hour class has three components that lead to overall well-being for the mind and body. The class begins with gentle stretching, followed by strengthening using body weight, and ends with deep relaxation. The benefits are reduction of aches and pains, increase range of motion and flexibility, release stress and tension, and develop a strong core. All exercises offer modifications to fit individual needs.
T’ai Chi Chih
Experience joy through movement as we practice simple, fluid movements in the non-martial art of T’ai Chi Chih, a moving meditation. Some reported benefits include stress reduction and increased energy.
This program is for individuals of all ages and fitness levels and incorporates a variety of progressive exercises using resistance bands and floor exercises. Benefits include improved muscular strength and tone, endurance, and flexibility as well as increased energy, stress reduction, and an overall sense of well-being.
This class is for anyone who is able to get up and down from an exercise mat on the floor. Practice gentle yoga, giving your body the ability to release stress and tension. Learn body awareness and breathing techniques to help you feel more refreshed and relaxed.
Gentle Yoga for Relaxation
Manage stress with gently flowing yoga stretches and healthy breathing. Become calm, alert, and rejuvenated through meditation, guided imagery and deep relaxation. Facilitated on the floor, participants are also encouraged to bring a blanket for comfort.
